The very first version of the CanyonChasers website was nothing more than a few photos with captions documenting a summer of riding. It has, since then, evolved quite a bit. Riding adventures are documented in much more detail now. We try to provide readers with ideas on where to go, how to find good roads, good restaurants and good lodging options along the way. Plus, we try to make the stories fun to read. We've found that a lot of our readers have been so inspired by these travel logs that they have set out on their own sport touring adventure. That is the greatest compliment we could ever be given!
Our journeys have been documented with photo's and organized by year. Select from the list of years below to read through some of our older trips.
2009
- Our intentions of riding north to escape the summer heat turned into an unplanned ride into The Black Hills of South Dakota. It'd been ten years since our previous visit, yet we were still unpreparred for how spectacular this part of the world is.
- We go international with our host MotoCaribe and ride the Dominican Republic. Yes, its a Caribbean Island and yes, it was as amazing as it sounds.
2008
- For the first time in over ten years, we pilgrimage to the far northern recesses of Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park to partake in what has been proclaimed as the most amazing road in the continental U.S. Read all about our trip to ride Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway.
- Its an annual tradition now, something that our regular readers look forward to. Our Annual Memoral Day Adventure (MD08). This year was unlike every other year (we say that every year) but the big news is our completely new travel log format.
2007
- In 2007 we also took the biggest CanyonChasers ride of all time, two weeks and 4400 miles to Alaska and back! The full version is quite long (but has all the epic details including maps, history of the areas we visited and much more) so we are trying something new and are offering two versions of the tale. Feel free to drop us a line and let us know which you prefer.
- Full Version of the 2007 Alaskan Adventure (be patient while the page loads).
- Short-Attention-Span Version - Abridged with bigger pictures
- 2007 started off with a bang and a fire (quite literally - not metaphorically) as we ventured south with almost 27 participants. Only three bikes would remain after three days. You gotta' read it to believe it. Survivor Ride - Memorial Day 2007
2006
- Summer was hard on the CanyonChasers crew, but we did manage to flee to Jackson Hole for a quick overnight trip. Read Dawns ramblings about two days and one night in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
- Annual Memorial Day Adventure - May This year, our kickoff ride through Southern Utah, over the Memorial Day weekend was a bit special, brand new rider Crystal, on her new motorcycle, details the trip from her untainted perspective. Read I found my inner fast
2005
- September brought three days of workless freedom, Mike took the opportunity to wander across most of Utah on his new V-Strom 1000, taking in a lot of Utah (and some Colorado too).
- In August we broke out for a grand tour of the Pacific Northwest and Canada - dubbed "The Great Canyon Chasers Fire of '05" this trip report is not one to miss!
- In July, for the first time in Canyon Chasers history we actually rode across Nevada to watch Valentino Rossi race in the 2005 Moto GP in Monterey California.
- Also in July we took an abbreviated dam ride to Vernal, Utah , it'd be a dam shame to miss reading all about it.
- In May of every year we ride through Southern Utah as a way to kick-off our year of riding. This years ride proved to be unique in more than one way. Read the whole report to learn why. We've also added more photos and maps! 2005 Memorial Day Adventure
2004
- 2004 - Southern California Coastal Riding Four of the Canyon Chasers spent a week enjoying some of Central California's finest roads.
- Ten Year Anniversary Canyon Chasers Memorial Day Ride Celebrate the ten year anniversary with the Canyon Chasers as we Ride through Southern Utah, again, during the three-day memorial day holiday. With one of the largest groups we've ever taken along with us, we had a great time and came home with a new member of the family.
2003
- Colorado in the fall and a new Motorcycle In the fall of 2003, Kris and I bought a Triumph Speed Triple to supercede the Suzuki TL1000S and thought that picking it up in Colorado would be a great excuse for a fall motorcycle trip. Since 2003 didn't offer much in the way of motorcycle trips, this turned out to be our major ride of the year.
- The First Annual Northern Utah Honda Hawk GT Rally (NUHR03) As a member of the Hawk GT listserv, most people in other parts of the county have annual get together's, since there are only two Utah Hawk listers, we decided to have our own little rally.
2002
- Idaho Loop - September In September, we took one last ride of the year to wander some of the best roads Idaho has to offer, we visited the final resting place of Ernest Hemingway and the famous "Tight Winding Roads Next 77 Miles" road sign on Idaho's famous Highway 12.
- Yellowstone National Park - Fourth of July Weekend This is probably one of our most "memorable" trips because of the surprise ending. We've included three alternate endings for you to choose from as well as the top-ten lessons learned.
- Memorial Day 2002 Our annual ride through southern Utah (and Utah's famous highway 12) was a fantastic way to start the year with the core group of CanyonChasers.
- The Art of the Motorcycle - Las Vegas in April We loaded up the ST1100 and hammered down Utah's Scenic I-15 to view the traveling Art of the Motorcycle.
2001
- California Adventure - September 2001 Just a few days after the September 11 tragedy, Kris and I took off for ten days in California to escape the tension of the times. The trip was probably one of the most memorable for Kris and I.
- Danny and Loretta get hitched and Colorado - August Finally Danny made Loretta an honest woman and asked her to be his bride and threw one of the nicest wedding parties we've ever been to. Kris and I celebrated with three days in Colorado after the new couple left for their honeymoon.
- Laguna Seca World Superbike Raceway - July A large group of us trailered our bikes to see the World Superbike and AMA races in Monterey California and learned why those guys who race get the big paychecks.
- Southern Utah Memorial Day Ride Another great start to a great riding year by traipsing Southern Utah and giving Mark his first experience through much of Canyon Country.
2000
- Canada This trip is the reason for this web site. It is the first travel log I ever tried to write down and the first Canyon Chasers adventure posted online. In other words, this is what prompted CanyonChasers.net...
Before 1999
- Where it all begain CanyonChasers originally started as a way to post photos of our trips, so we could all look at them, but it has since grown. Here are some of the very first photos ever to be posted.
